Behavioral: Reproduction.
Mating season for the red wolf are between January and March. The average number of offspring they have are 3 to 6. The average age for a red wolf to have pups is 1 year old.
The dominate male and female of the pack are able to reproduce within the pack. The other wolves in the pack help raise the pups to maturity.
Mating season ranges in between January and March. The female pregnancy period of time ranges from 60 days to 62 days. The average litter size is 3-6 pups, but may also reach the amount of 12.
Both males and females rear the pups into the den. The young pups are cared for and fed for the first year of their lives.
Behavior: The Red Wolf is a nocturnal species. When a home range is formed, a portion of it becomes the primary territory of the pack. Packs usually consist of a mated pair and their pups. Dens within the home range are built to keep pups safe. They are usually built in trunks of hallow trees and/or river banks.
When unknown wolves enter their territory, Red Wolves are aggressive against them, trying to protect the land that is already claimed theirs.
They hunt small proportions from 7-10 days. Continuously shifting in different areas of the home range.
